About Amerex
Amerex Corporation® is a leading American manufacturer of fire suppression products, headquartered in Trussville, Alabama. The company specializes in the production of hand portable and wheeled fire extinguishers for commercial and industrial applications, as well as fire and explosion suppression systems for military vehicles. Amerex’s commitment to innovation has resulted in the development of a wide range of advanced fire protection solutions, including automatic restaurant suppression systems, vehicle fire suppression systems, gas detection systems, industrial suppression systems, and fire detection equipment.
Amerex was founded in 1971 by Ned Paine and George Baureis. Paine remained with the company until his retirement in September 1999, at which point he sold the business to McWane, Inc. In 2010, Amerex expanded into the defense sector by developing specialized fire suppression systems for U.S. military vehicles. These systems are still in use today, providing critical protection against threats such as landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in conflict zones. Amerex serves as a subcontractor to the Oshkosh Corporation, a manufacturer of military vehicles, many of which are equipped with Amerex's advanced suppression technology. These systems utilize optical sensors to instantly detect fires and explosions, activating a targeted response through jets and hoses that dispense a concealed fire-extinguishing agent.
In 2011, Amerex further expanded its global presence by acquiring The Solberg Company, a firefighting equipment manufacturer based in Bergen, Norway. According to Amerex President Bill Beyer, fire extinguisher sales often correlate with broader economic trends and the growth of new construction. Today, Amerex manufactures approximately 2.5 million fire extinguishers annually, serving a wide range of industries and environments across the globe.
